'Dube Birds' avenge Ajax defeat

Moroka Swallows defeated Ajax Cape Town 2-1 in an exciting Absa Premiership match played at the Germiston Stadium on Sunday evening.

This defeat was sweet revenge for the 'Beautiful Birds', who suffered a humiliating 1-4 loss to Ajax earlier this season.

Swallows started the brighter of the two teams, but it was the Cape side which opened the scoring through Nathan Paulse in the 30th minute.

The 'Birds' hit back a minute later when Sandile Ndlovu slotted home calmly from close range after Cecil Oerson's shot had been blocked.

The score remained 1-1 at half-time.

Swallows were the stronger team in the final 45 minutes and had chances when Lefa Tsutsulupa's attempted chip sailed just over the bar in the 65th minute and Evans Gwekwerere shot wide only four minutes later.

Gwekwerere netted the winner in the 70th minute when he headed the ball into the net from close range after Bevan Fransman had flicked on Oerson's corner.

The home side was reduced to 10 men in the 77th minute when Patrick Mabedi was red-carded, but Ajax were unable to use this to their advantage as ?The Birds? held on for three points.
