'In the Hotseat' with Siphamandla

During the next few of weeks, the official Moroka Swallows website will be running exclusive one-on-one interviews with various 'Birds' first team players to find out their views on the team and their personal achievements.

This week, morokaswallows.co.za's Khaya Ndubane spoke to 19-year-old Siphamandla Vilakazi, who is in his first season with the 'Birds'.

It's Siphamandla 'In the Hotseat'!

Khaya Ndubane (KN): Hi, Siphamandla, welcome to the 'Hotseat'.

Siphamandla Vilakazi (SV): Hi, Khaya thanks for inviting me for a chat.

KN: How have you enjoyed your stay at Swallows thus far?

SV: "I'm enjoying my stay at Swallows. The guys (players) here have been great and they are supportive, whilst the management and the technical staff have also been supportive. I'm really enjoying myself here at Swallows."

KN: Do you have any particular player that you look up to at Swallows?

SV: "I look up to Maimane Phiri who has done it all. Phiri has played for some of the best teams in South Africa and has been abroad, too. He has also played for Bafana Bafana, so I always ask him for advice and he has been motivating me. Guys like Goodman (Mazibuko) and Lefa (Tsutsulupa) are also motivating us youngsters."

KN: And coach Ian Gorowa, what has he said to you?

SV: "He recently told me to keep working hard and that my time will come. He said I have the talent to do well in the league, but I need more experience."

KN: Has this put you under any pressure to perform?

SV: "No, there is no pressure at all. The coach knows that I'm still new at this level of playing and he told me that he will allow me to gain as much experience as possible before throwing me into the deep-end. I think I will play more games next season as I would have gained experience by then, but for now I will continue to learn."

KN: Do you have any messages for the 'Birds' supporters out there?

SV: "I want to urge them to be patient with us as this has been a learning season for us all - including the coach. Next season we will be fighting for honours, but having said that, we have not done too badly this season and we are still in contention for the top eight at the moment."
