Moroka Swallows were dealt a massive blow on Monday when it was revealed that goalkeeper Greg Etafia would be out of action until next year after picking up an injury at the weekend.
According to Swallows team doctor, Dr Ephraim Nematswerani, Etafia suffered a complete fracture of the distal ulna (forearm) bone in Saturday evening's highly-charged, yet entertaining Telkom Knockout encounter against Kaizer Chiefs at Loftus.
Etafia seemed to have had a 50-50 ball safely in his hands, when Chiefs striker Kaizer Motaung Junior stuck his foot in. The contact from Motaung Jnr left the acrobatic 'Birds' goalkeeper clutching his left forearm in extreme pain.
He is due to undergo an operation Monday, October 1 - subsequently ruling him out of action until next year.
Etafia's injury brings to three the number of 'Birds' players operated on in the last seven days; the others being midfielders Tsweu Mokoro (left groin) and Cecil Oerson (right knee).
