Swallows sign Fransman, Mathibe

Fourth-placed Moroka Swallows, who have enjoyed a reasonably good season in the Castle Premiership, have set their sights on competing for honours in the forthcoming season. Swallows gave strong indication of this intention with club CEO Leon Prins confirming the signing of new talented youngsters, Tlale Aubrey Mathibe and Bevan Fransman, both of whom are on the books of Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs.

"Both players have come off their contracts and we're delighted to have signed them," Prins told the official Moroka Swallows website on Monday.

He added: "Their signings, of course, are still subject to stringent medical tests, as Fransman has battled with a groin injury this season."

On the signing of 'keeper Mathibe, who hails from Kroonstad, Prins said: "He's a highly-rated goalkeeper and we're very excited about him. At 25 he's still a young man and it's all part of our plan to get some young blood into our squad."

Fransman - a centre back or left back who was born in Cape Town - is just 22 years old and he boasts two caps for Bafana Bafana.

"He's also young," enthused Prins, "but what we like most about him is that he's 1,90 metres tall, which will help us at the back."

Swallows are currently in fourth position in the PSL standings, having claimed 45 points from 29 matches thus far in 2005/06.

Their next Castle Premiership encounter is against Tembisa Classic at Herman Immelman Stadium on Sunday, May 7 (kick-off 3.15pm).
