Kannemeyer - 'Focus on Tshwane derby'
Thursday September 21 2006
Mamelodi Sundowns defender David Kannemeyer has called on his team-mates to forget about Wednesday night's victory over Moroka Swallows and focus on this weekend's Tshwane derby.
Sundowns will meet city rivals SuperSport United in a mouth-watering SAA Supa 8 semi-final clash at Olympia Stadium on Saturday.
"We got rid of Swallows and we can now concentrate on the upcoming cup game against SuperSport United on Saturday," Kannemeyer told the official Sundowns website.
He added: "There is that needle in clashes between us and SuperSport United. I guess the fact that this is a derby makes it all the more interesting to both players and spectators.
"I know for a fact that no Sundowns player likes to lose to United and I guess the same applies to their players. And past results count for nothing whenever the two teams meet and we are looking forward to a tough, but clean and interesting game."
Meanwhile, Swallows will face Kaizer Chiefs in the other SAA Supa 8 semi-final clash at ABSA Stadium in Durban on Sunday and newly-appointed Birds PRO Sello Maugane has warned the Swallows players not to take Chiefs for granted.
"The players are motivated to pull one over Chiefs. The fact that Chiefs are wounded lions right now makes them more dangerous," Maugane told the official Swallows website.
"A win aginst Sundowns last night (Wednesday night) would have been ideal for us, but our players do not need any motivation when it comes to playing a team like Chiefs.
"We are anticipating a tough game against Chiefs, but we are confident that our team will be victorious on Sunday," Maugane added.
Tickets for both encounters are available at Computicket outlets throughout the country.
