'Birds' open day a success
The Moroka Swallows open day, held at the Old Moroka Jabavu Stadium on Saturday, has been declared a great success.
The 'Beautiful Birds' supporters got the opportunity to rub shoulders with their favourite Swallows stars and members of the technical team, management and club staff.
Amongst the guests were some of South Africa's most celebrated administrators and soccer stars, including the 'Birds' own legends, South African soccer legend and Jomo Cosmos owner Jomo Sono, Orlando Pirates and the Premier Soccer League's chairman Irvin Khoza.
Award-winning South African band Freshlyground and rising star Lungelo were among the headline acts performing at the event.
Khoza thanked Swallows for their role in his success and applauded them for remaining a strong unit for as long as they have, while other franchises have been sold, relegated or fallen by the way side.
He also acknowledged the 'Birds' for their innovation after introducing membership cards for their supporters and hinted at taking a leaf from the Swallows book and implementing the open-day idea at a Pirates event marking their own legacy.
VW Polo GTI giveaway
Tobogo Sekgaile was the lucky Moroka Swallows supporter to walk away with the Volkwagen Polo GTi. Mr Sekgaile received the keys to his new car from Ryan Searle, the Marketing Manager of the 'Beautiful Birds' official sponsors VW, and Luthando Zibeko from Kick-Off.
