Swallows edge AmaZulu
Moroka Swallows edged AmaZulu with a 3-2 scoreline in an end-to-end Absa Premiership clash at the Germiston Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Tsweu Mokoro scored in the third minute for Swallows before Innocent Mkhwanazi equalised in the 19th minute. The red-hot Swallows striker James Chamanga scored his 10th league goal of the season in the 24th minute, which was cancelled out by Mkhwanazi 10 minutes after the break. But James Mayinga got the winner in the 60th minute and the 'Dube Birds' held on to their slender lead and moved up to fourth position on the Premiership log standings.
Swallows winger Japhet Zwane played a quick one-two with Mokoro, who sped into the box unmarked and gave goalkeeper Lawrence Ncala no chance as he blasted the ball in to the roof of the net.
The visitors were shocked into action and foraged forward to equalise but center-backs Bevan Fransman and Patrick Mabedi were stubborn in Swallows backline and gave Johm Moshoeu and co. little room to move.
AmaZulu finally got the equaliser from a set-piece. Bafo Biyela sent the ball in from the right and found Mkhwanazi at the near-post, who - despite having a man on him - smartly side-footed the ball past 'Birds' 'keeper Greg Etafia.
Both sides then started to attack freely, looking for another goal and play went from end to end. The Birds top-scorer Chamanga, who was rather quiet, struck home with aplomb. For his eighth goal in three games, Chamanga turned two defenders on the edge of the 18-yard area, steadied himself and blasted the ball past AmaZulu 'keeper Lawrence Ncala.
AmaZulu again went on the attack and although the build-up was good the finishing was awful. Biyela stormed down the right-flank and played in an inviting cross which two AmaZulu players missed with Etafia beaten.
Swallows lead 2-1 at half-time.
Mkhwanazi struck again 10 minutes after the break from a speculative cross-cum-shot that surprised 'Birds' 'keeper Etafia as it flew over him. The 'Dube Birds' were now shocked in to action and immediately went on the attack.
Three minutes later Swallows defender James Mayinga casually strolled up field and no AmaZulu players challenged him. With the goal in sight he paced forward, played a neat one-two with Sandile Ndlovu and blasted the ball in to the roof of the net to give Swallows victory.
