Wits end 'Birds' winning streak
Moroka Swallows winning streak came to an when they lost 0-1 to BidVest Wits in an Absa Premiership match at BidVest Stadium on Friday night.
Wits winning goal was scored by Noah Chivuta shortly before half time.
The 'Beautiful Birds' started the better of the two sides and they should have taken a lead in the ninth minute, but Sandile Ndlovu's shot was saved by Wits 'keeper Moeneeb Josephs.
Tshweu Mokoro also came close to opening the scoring for Swallows one minute later, but his shot went narrowly wide with Josephs well-beaten.
Swallows were to rue these missed chances in the 44th minute when Chivuta pounced on a loose ball inside the penalty area before firing a powerful shot past 'Birds' goalkeeper Greg Etafia.
The score remained 1-0 in favour of Wits at half-time.
Swallows coach Ian Gorowa made a couple of tactical changes in the second half in an effort to find an equaliser.
Gorowa's gamble almost paid off in the 74th minute when one of the substitutes Evans Gwekwerere was fouled just outside the Wits penalty box. Bevan Fransman's free kick was the met by Ndlovu who forced a good save out of Josephs.
Josephs did well again to deny Gwekwerere on the stroke of full time and that save proved to be the last action of the match as Wits went on to register the win that took them to the top of the 2007/08 Absa Premiership standings.
