Swallows go down to Cosmos
Luck continued to desert Moroka Swallows as they suffered a 1-3 loss to Jomo Cosmos in an Absa Premiership match at Germiston Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The 'Dube Birds' had plenty of opportunities to win the game, especially in the second half when 'Ezenkosi' resorted to a more defensive approach after taking an early lead via a penalty from Anthony Laffor.
Cosmos were awarded a penalty in the sixth minute when Goodman Mazibuko was adjudged to have fouled Godfrey Massa inside the penalty box.
Lefa Tsutsulupa almost equalised for Swallows five minutes later when he took a snap shot that went narrowly wide, with Cosmos 'keeper Avril Phali well-beaten.
Sandile Ndlovu also came close to scoring for the 'Birds' in the 39th minute, but his header went over the crossbar - leaving the score at 1-0 in favour of Cosmos at half-time.
Swallows came out firing on all cylinders in the second half and they almost grabbed their equaliser in the 47th minute, but Japhet Zwane's rocket shot hit the side-netting.
Tsutsulupa almost redeemed himself seven minutes later when he took a powerful shot which Phali pushed out for a corner.
The self-same Tsutsulupa could then only look on in dismay as his curling shot beat Phali but hit the crossbar.
Swallows were to rue these missed chances as Tshepo Moloto and Dikgang Mabalane added two quick goals for Cosmos in the dying minutes of the match, before substitute Alton Meiring scored a consolation goal for Swallows. However, it was too little, too late for Swallows.
