'Birds' held to draw
Moroka Swallows were held to a 0-0 draw by AmaZulu in a Castle Premiership match played at Germiston Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The 'Beautiful Birds' started the slower side as the relegation threatened AmaZulu attacked as soon as the match got under way.
But the 'Birds' soon threatened the visitors but Sibusiso Dlamini shot narrowly wide from a clever Swallows move.
Dlamini again came close but Jan Sillo rescued AmaZulu when he cleared the 'Birds' striker's chip off the goal-line.
Swallows forced AmaZulu to an error as the visitors conceded an indirect free-kick inside of their penalty area, but Rudi Isaacs could not keep his shot low and AmaZulu escaped.
With the first half ending 0-0, Swallows' coach Gavin Hunt made his intentions clear early in the second half when he made a double substitution, bringing on Jabulani Mendu and Evans Gwekwerere for Songwe Chalwe and Dlamini.
When Tshweu Moroko was awarded acres of space to shoot, he took full advantage but AmaZulu's goalkeeper Tshepo Motsoeneng parried the midfielder's thunderous strike.
Isaacs almost made good for his earlier miss when from a curling corner-kick taken by Cecil Oerson, he rose highest only to see his header fly wide of goal.
Even the presence of last season's leading goal-scorer Mame Niang was not enough for the 'Birds' as AmaZulu switched to defence mode towards the end of the game and held on for the point.
