'Birds' to play in Botswana
Moroka Swallows have confirmed that they will be playing in a four-team tournament in Botswana this coming weekend.
The 'Beautiful Birds', along with fellow Absa Premiership side Jomo Cosmos, will play Botswana's Extension Gunners and Mochudi Centre Chiefs in a tournament that gets underway on Friday evening and ends on Saturday afternoon.
"We will be taking our full squad to Botswana, with the exception, of course, of Bevan Fransman and James Chamanga, both of whom are representing South Africa and Zambia in the AFCON in Ghana," Swallows General Manager Sipho Xulu told the club's official website.
He added: "This tournament will go a long way in helping us achieve our goals prior to the restart of the Absa Premiership. Our main aim is to keep players match fit and to give our new recruits a chance to gel with the team.
"Of course, we want to win the tournament and we would not have accepted the invitation if we had no intentions of winning. But, like I said, we also want to use it to try out different combinations as well."
The first semi-final will kick-off on Friday at 7pm and will be followed by the second semi-final at 9pm.
On Saturday, proceedings will start with the third and fourth play-offs at 1pm. The final will get underway at 4pm.
"We are hoping that it will be an all-South Africa affair in the final, but we have to beat whomever we meet in the semi-finals, before we can even think of a place in the final," concluded Xulu.
