'Birds' youngster represents Africa

A Moroka Swallows youngster has been selected to represent Africa in the Meridian Cup to be held in Spain this week.

Swallows youngster Ramahlwe Quinton Mphahlele - who captains the national Under-17 squad - is the only South African player selected for the African team.

Moroka Swallows coach Gavin Hunt congratulated the 'Amajimbos' captain on this achievement, saying it was great not only for the club, but the country as a whole.

"The fact that he is the only South African player in the African squad makes us at Swallows very proud." Hunt told the official Swallows website.

"The youngster has a lot of potential that is why he is in the senior team. His progress at Swallows has been hampered by his schooling as it is difficult for me to select him in the starting line-up because he does not attend training regularly.

"[But] we don't want to interfere with his schooling, which is why we gave him a month to focus on school work."

Hunt added that he might draft the young defender into the team during the school holidays in order for South African fans to see the talented youngster in action.
