'Injury Time' with Dr E - 27/09/07
Welcome to another informative edition of 'Injury Time' with Dr E, where Moroka Swallows' team doctor, Dr Humbulani Ephraim Nematswerani, gives us the latest update on the injured 'Birds' players.
James Chamanga has been training for over a week, back from a recurrent lower leg/ankle injury, whilst Cecil Oerson and Tshweu Mokoro both went under the surgeon's knife for knee and groin operations, respectively.
The Swallows ward round is as follows:
1. Cecil Oerson:
Diagnosis: Grade 3A tear of the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus, right knee.
Investigations: Diagnosis confirmed by an MRI scan done on September 17.
Surgery: Arthroscopic repair on September 26.
He will be out until November 26, 2007.
2. Tsweu Mokoro:
Diagnosis: Gilmore's groin (Sportsman's hernia), left groin.
Investigations: Diagnosis confirmed by an Ultrasound scan done on September 11.
Surgery: Surgical repair on September 21.
He will be out until November 21, 2007.
3. James Chamanga:
Recurrence of left lower leg/ankle injury.
Started training this week.
Opinion: Fit for this weekend.
4. Mohamed Ouseb:
Had anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) repair on his right knee in April 2006.
He has been declared clinically fit to start training.
Opinion: Out for this weekend due to non-medical issues.
5. Bjorn Gugger:
Had lateral menisectomy on his left knee a few years ago. He subsequently suffered damages to the cartilage in that joint. Operation done in January 2007.
Opinion: Out for this weekend.
6. Tebogo Monyai:
- Open reduction and internal fixation of right tibia (leg bone), following a fracture in January 2007.
- Chondroplasty (arthroscopy) right knee in April 2007.
- Right groin operation (Gilmore's groin) in April 2007.
Started individual training sessions on the field this week.
Opinion: X-Rays done Thursday, August 23, confirm healing has gone well with satisfactory union of the bones. Out for this weekend.
