'In the Birds Nest' - May 29, 2007
Welcome to yet another edition of Moroka Swallows' ever-popular 'In the Birds Nest', as always jam-packed with first-team news, ladies and supporters' news.
The PSL season has come to a close and the team is now on a well-deserved break. Although we did not achieve all of our objectives, the team did well to fight back after a poor start and finally managed to finish in the top three. Thank you to our sponsors for their unwavering support! All at Swallows are extremely disappointed to have missed out on a Champions League place.
The team will reconvene on Wednesday, June 20 to prepare for our trip to Europe where we will be playing against VFL Wolfsburg (German Bundesliga) for the Volkswagen Cup. Most of the current squad is contracted for the coming season, which bodes well for the future.
The PSL Reserve League season has ended and we finished in fifth place. We used the Reserve League primarily to blood youngsters from our Youth Development.
Development Team's fixtures:
June 2, Delville Stadium, Germiston:
(U17) Moroka Swallows v Corinthians at 2pm
(U19) Moroka Swallows v Corinthians at 3.30pm
Under-15 Nike Youth tournament:
Our team has been drawn into a group with Mamelodi Sundowns, African Sport and Arcadia Shepherds for the Under-15 Nike Youth Tournament. The tournament will be played on June 9 and 10 at the SAFA/Simba Stadium in Klipspruit, Soweto. Our first game will be played against Arcadia at 10am on Sunday, June 10.
We wish our boys the best of luck!

The club and Gavin Hunt have officially announced that he will be leaving Moroka Swallows. Management, staff, players and the coach all concurred with sadness that his spell at the helm of Swallows had been a successful and fruitful one.
We leave each other on good terms and as good friends and will watch each other's progress closely. Gavin specifically mentioned that he had enjoyed his time at Swallows through both the great and the challenging times.
We wish him very well!
In preparation for the 2007/08 season we will be holding supporters' workshops around the country. Two delegates per branch will be invited to the workshops with the aim of strengthening communication channels between the branches and the club.
The means to revive the National Executive Council will also be discussed. Dates and venues will be published in the 'Birds Nest' on June 20.
It is time to say thank you to all of our supporters for this past season, we know that without you and your support we would not be where we are today. We hope that we have made you proud!
Have a good rest 'Bafowethu'!
