'Birds' star soars into Bafana squad
Moroka Swallows star Bevan 'Sticks' Fransman has again been included in the SA senior national squad by Bafana Bafana head coach Carlos Alberto Parreira.
Bafana travel to Europe to face world champions Italy in Sienna on Wednesday, October 17, with the 'Beautiful Birds' defensive rock telling morokaswallows.co.za: "I'm not only extremely pleased that my hard-work is being recognised by the national coach, but I'm motivated to raise my game further."
With veteran Kaizer Chiefs defender Cyril Nzama the only defensive option on the right for Bafana, the versatile Fransman could see himself fill that position in the near future.
'Sticks', however, would like establish himself as an accomplished centre-back for his country.
"I know that I need a bit more experience before I can stake my claim in the centre of the Bafana defence. If the coach has confidence in me playing at any position, I will do my best even he plays me as a striker," he said.
"Playing for Bafana is an honour, so one has to take it no matter how difficult that task is - I have to give my all!"
Whilst 'Sticks' has a fantastic opportunity to establish himself in the Bafana mix ahead of 2010, he was also quick to add how things had developed at Moroka Swallows this season.
"We're playing under a new technical team who have instilled some fresh ideals in the team," he enthused. "All I can say is that change does not happen overnight, but the 'Birds' will soar this season under the tutelage of Ian Gorowa and Innocent Mayoyo."
