Malinga joins Swallows
Moroka Swallows have bolstered their defence by signing former Orlando Pirates hardman Edward 'Eddie' Malinga on an 18-month contract with an option to renew for a further two years.
Malinga is the fifth player to be signed by Swallows since the January transfer window opened; the 'Beautiful Birds' having also signed midfielders Siphamandla Vilakazi, Maimane Phiri and Siphesihle Ngobese, as well as former Ajax defender Brent Geyer.
Speaking exclusively to morokaswallows.co.za after signing his contract, the hard-tackling defender said he was happy to have joined an ambitious club like the 'Dube Birds'.
"Swallows have shown that they mean business this season by signing quality players. You can see that they want to win something [this season]," he added.
"There were other teams who were after my services, but I decided to join Swallows because they are an ambitious team and I want to be part of a winning outfit."
He added: "I want to thank the Swallows management for giving me this opportunity to play soccer again after being on the sidelines for some time.
"I hope to replay their faith in me by giving my all every time I don the Swallows jersey," concluded Malinga.
With the news that Bevan Fransman will be staying with the 'Dube Birds', coach Ian Gorowa is sure to have plenty of options at the back and that augurs well for the team when their league season resumes on Wednesday, February 23.
