Another 'Bird' lands in a national team
Moroka Swallows midfielder Serame Mataligoane has been recalled to the South African Under-17 national team, 'Amajimbos', for the Youth Championships which take place in Namibia from December 8-15.
Mataligoane is the fourth 'Birds' development player to be selected into the national youth team, the others being Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Sifiso Myeni and Thulani Ngcephe, all of whom are already part of the SA Under-20 team ('Amajita') set-up.
Paul Habib, Swallows' Head of Development, was understandably pleased with this latest development, hailing the club's development coaches for "doing a tremendous job".
"Firstly, I want to congratulate Serame for his recall. Personally, I do believe that he deserves to be in the squad. He has been working very hard and really deserves the break," Habib told the official Swallows website.
He added: "I am really proud of all our boys who are representing Swallows from various national teams, including Bevan Fransman, who will be playing for Bafana in the AFCON.
"I have been with these boys for five years now and all I've seen is dedication and hard work from them. May they continue to shine, not only for Swallows, but for their country as well."
Meanwhile, Myeni was one of the goal-scorers when 'Amajita' demolished neighbours Swaziland 4-1 in COSAFA Youth Championships in Nelspruit over the weekend.
"I'm really excited for Sifiso and like I said before, this was a result of the hard work that these players put into their games.
"Sifiso has a bright future ahead of him and if he keeps a level head, he will go places - the boy has unbelievable talent," concluded a proud Habib.
