'Birds' handed Pirates challenge

Moroka Swallows have been handed a tricky first-round encounter in the 2006/07 ABSA Cup - 'The Cup of Dreams' - having been drawn against traditional rivals Orlando Pirates.

But Swallows will no doubt fancy their chances against the ailing 'Buccaneers', as they were unlucky to draw 2-2 when the two teams last played - in the Castle Premiership on January 31 - with the 'Beautiful Birds' conceding a late goal.

That result aside, however, Swallows Communications Manager Sello Maugane believes his side is prepared for Pirates.

"It's a motivation for us," Maugane told the official Swallows website. "It's a chance to prove to ourselves that we can beat anyone."

Meanwhile, Pirates PRO Mickey Modisane told the official PSL website that Pirates were wary of Swallows, with the teams having played to two draws in the Castle Premiership this season.

"The players' tactical discipline has improved," Modisane said. "We now have to improve in other areas of the game.

"We hope by the time we play Swallows we will be strong in the other aspects of the game," he continued.
