'Injury Time' with Dr E - 07/12/07

Greg Etafia's timely return to bolster the 'Beautiful Birds' rearguard could just be what the doctor ordered in this weekend's crucial Absa Premiership encounter against Platinum Stars.

Mark Haskins's fate, however, will be decided by a late fitness test on Saturday. Find out more about the 'Birds' injury situation in the latest edition of 'Injury Time' with Dr E!

The 'Birds' ward round is as follows:

1. Cecil Oerson:
Diagnosis: Grade 3A tear of the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus, right knee.
Investigations: Diagnosis confirmed by an MRI scan done on September 17.
Surgery: Arthroscopic repair on September 26.
He will be out until end December 2007.

2. Mark Haskins:
Right calf muscle strain, mild.
Has been undergoing treatment and rehab for the past two weeks.

3. Bjorn Gugger:
Had lateral menisectomy on his left knee a few years ago. He subsequently suffered damages to the cartilage in that joint. Operation done in January 2007.
Opinion: Out for this weekend.

4. Tebogo Monyai:
- Open reduction and internal fixation of right tibia (leg bone) following a fracture in January 2007.
- Chondroplasty (arthroscopy) right knee in April 2007.
- Right groin operation (Gilmores' groin) in April 2007.
Has been doing individual training for the past 2-3 three weeks.
Accidentally twisted his right knee in the gym on October 23, with a resultant swelling thereof.
Opinion: Not fit.

5. George Hummel:
He had a right tibia operation late 2006 following a troublesome stress fracture.
Played the last seven league matches of the previous season, and has been training/playing this season without any adverse effects.
Started complaining of persistent right leg pains and a subsequent X-Ray done revealed a recurrence of the old fracture.
Opinion: Will be out until end January 2008.

6. Ivan Winstanley:
Sustained a knock on left side of rib cage two weeks ago.
Opinion: Will undergo late fitness test on Saturday.

Till next week!
