Injury time with Dr E - 08/03/07

Welcome to the latest edition of the ever-popular 'Injury time with Dr E', with Moroka Swallows team doctor, Dr Humbulani Ephraim Nematswerani.

Excitement and a huge sigh of relief were palpable at the 'Beautiful Birds' nest on Tuesday, March 6, following news that Swallows assistant coach, Daniel 'Vader' Mophosho, has been transferred from the Intensive Care Unit - where he had been admitted for over two weeks - to a normal ward.

Despite his satisfactory progress, 'Vader' is not yet fit to be discharged from hospital.

The rest of the medical report is as follows:

1. Mohamed Ouseb:
Ouseb has just started individual training sessions. Still far from being match fit.

2. George Hummel:
Diagnosis: Fracture left tibia.
Operation: Done on December 11, 2006.
Has now recovered from the injury. Hummel played a full game against Golden Arrows last weekend without any adverse effects.

3. Bjorn Gugger:
Diagnosis: Degenerative changes in left knee following lateral menisectomy 3-4 years ago.
Operation: Done on January 22, 2007.
Expected recovery date: End of April, 2007.

4. Sibusiso Themba:
Injured right ankle on January 2, 2007.
Diagnosis: Deltoid ligament sprain.
He is now medically fit and training with the rest of the team.

5. Tebogo Monyai:
Injured right leg on January 28, 2007.
Diagnosis: Fracture mid-tibia.
Operation: Done on January 30, 2007.
Expected recovery date: Out for the rest of the season.

6. Songwe Chalwe:
Fell on his left hand on January 28, 2007 during match against Cosmos.
Diagnosis: Slightly displaced fracture of the proximal fourth metacarpal.
Expected recovery date: He is fit to play.

7. Tsweu Mokoro:
Injured right knee on January 22, 2007.
Diagnosis: Grade 2 Medial Collateral Ligament sprain (confirmed by Ultrasound Scan).
Responded well to treatment. Has now started training, however, he is not yet match fit for this weekend.

8. Goodman Mazibuko:
Diagnosis: Left groin strain.
Treatment: Conservative management, responded well to treatment.
Opinion: Has started training with the rest of the team. Doubtful for this weekend.

9. Bevan Fransman:
Diagnosis: Right calf muscle soreness.
Opinion: Responded well to physiotherapy.
Medically fit and started training with the rest of the team.
